Abstract of the Offer
Management of safety, state of health and state of charge of modern batteries, particularly those with high power density and high energy density, is becoming one of the most significant real world technology challenges with well publicised battery failures causing millions of dollars of damage to infrastructure and transport. The BatteryIQ BMS has been developed by a UK-based SME with the goal of managing the safety and status of any battery system. It is modular and can be tailored to specific requirements if necessary.
Description
BatteryIQ Technology:
- BatteryIQ makes safety easily visible throughout the life of a battery.
- Our Battery Management System (BMS) monitors all key indicators of battery health and uses a low energy Bluetooth transmitter or CANbus to constantly share this information. This means no second guessing whether a battery is a safe for any stakeholders.
- BatteryIQ detects risks as the first signs develop. It informs users while further damage is preventable and possibly reversible. This means a battery can never degrade to the point of posing a safety risk in normal use.
- BatteryIQ data can be shared to our central servers or other specified end points so that it is accessible to relevant stakeholders with permission to use it: individual users, building managers, insurers, public agencies and manufacturers.
- Inbuilt memory records battery history to manage maintenance or warranty queries.
- The BMS has been engineered and tested in the UK with independent validation from Cambridge Design Partnership.
BatteryIQ technology is applicable in any scenario where a battery is deployed, particularly where inherently safe design drivers require access to the source code of the system. Designed and owned by BatteryIQ wholly in the UK, the core operating code of the technology is not hidden or inaccessible as is the case for many COTS BMSs. For use cases that are risk sensitive, including aerospace, space and defence, this provides the opportunity to integrate a fully understood and risk assessed technology.
BatteryIQ BMS can detect, report and protect against key safety risks:
- Unexpected temperature changes in use indicating a fault
- Unsuitable environmental conditions for charging and discharging
- Water ingress
- Cell under voltage
- Individual cell performance drift, indicating damage
- Incorrect charge profile – will not accept charge if input is not suitable
Advantages and Innovations
Specialised skills and experience in electronics and software, with a deep understanding of the underlying technologies, physics and practicalities. This helps to
BatteryIQ BMS provides an off-the-shelf battery management solution from a trusted source that can be independently verified and validated. The technology is focussed on ensuring the safety and long term reliability of battery systems and ensuring that useful information about your battery is readily available.
The alternative to using a BatteryIQ BMS is to either engage in the long, technically challenging and expensive process of developing your own BMS, or purchasing a third party product whose functionality is likely to be opaque and inflexible and granular data difficult to access.
BatteryIQ is committed to being the independent benchmark for battery safety.
